Before getting into the running I did this weekend, which went well, I must briefly acknowledge the travesty that occurred in Morgantown on Saturday night.
I still can’t believe that the Mountaineers lost to the lowly Pitt panthers on Saturday night. It was, without a doubt, one of the worst football games I have ever seen. People will say that Pitt played “the game they had to play to win”, but that’s B.S. Pitt played thir usual brand of mediocre football with some notable defensive plays. Their offense was weak, per usual, and only managed 13 points the entire game.
However, 13 points was enough to beat WVU, amazingly. The same team that scored 60 points against UCONN, a much better team than Pitt, managed just 9 points. I can’t tell you how embarrassing that game was to watch. Horrible.
I realize that Pat White was injured in the second quarter but it’s not as if he was the only productive part of the offense. Sure, the backup couldn’t hang onto the ball, but then again, why hell are you having him run the ball and keeping it out of the hands of your star running back in the first place? Or maybe giving it to your fullback who’s known for hitting guys so hard he breaks facemasks? That might have opened up some holes in the line. Why weren’t you passing to your star receivers? And if you didn’t want to do all that, why not bring in the freshman running back and see what he does? None of that happened on Saturday night. Instead WVU ran plays that made no sense (why attempt a running play on 3rd and long? WHY?) or ran plays using the wrong players, like having the backup quarterback run the ball several times. I have nothing against WVU’s backup. I’m sure he’s very good. But he had no idea what to do out there at times. Just get the ball to the receivers or hand it to Slaton for Christ’s sake.
I can’t understand it. As I said, it was the worst WVU football game I have ever seen. Not only did they appear not to want the game, but they really didn’t seem to care they were getting embarrassed by a bunch of clowns from Pitt. Now they’re going to the Fiesta Bowl to play Oklahoma. I don’t think they deserve to go to a bowl at all after playing like that. And you know what? I’ll bet $100 that they play another terrible game and lose badly to Oklahoma too. That’s just the way WVU football goes; I’m not sure why I thought this season would be any different. As a lifelong WVU fan, I will always cheer for the Mountaineers, win or lose. But that doesn’t mean I have to blindly accept such an obvious lack of heart and desire.
That’s all I’ll say about that until the Fiesta Bowl. Annie’s parents are Ohio State fans so I can cheer for them on January 7.
Anyway, on to the running portion of this post. I got a good 5 miles in yesterday morning before we left for Washington for the day. Nothing too exciting. I followed the same path I used last week, but I’ve posted it below in case you don’t want to look back through my awesome posts from the week. I also need to update with the splits, etc but I’m at work and away from y Garmin. This week I bump up the mileage just a bit, going for 18 miles total. Annie is going to New York on Thursday with her mom and sister and won’t be back until Monday, which gives me the entire weekend to relax and do what I want. She’s in New York tonight until later when I have to pick her up from the bus station, but today is a rest day. Tomorrow we have to drive back down to Washington for a callback, which I am not thrilled about. But the gig pays and she’s up for the lead, so it’s worth it if she gets it.
As my runs get longer, my need for a hydration pack gets greater. I am going to have bite the bullet and get one here very soon because once I start getting above 5 miles per day, I need to be able to drink constantly. I will spend some time today shopping. I’d like to find one on a site that doesn’t charge for shipping, because that whole concept is a nice little racket. Eight bucks for shipping that really costs them like $2.00? No thanks.
More tomorrow.

I found a site over the weekend and ended up ordering some stuff b/c they have free shipping (not sure if that's all the time, or just right now). Anyway, here's a link to their hydration packs. The free shipping is via UPS Ground which is much better than the post office which seems to be the free shipping option with most places.
