The Running Man

So my plan for today was to get up early when Annie gets up to get ready for her church job and to head out and get my 11 mile run in before coming back to pick her up and head to DC for the day.

Unfortunately, I overslept and didn't even get back to my apartment (we live in the same building but in different apartments...it's a long story) until 9 AM and then had to eat my breakfast of a glass of water and a Power Bar, then get ready for the run. By the time I got to the Inner Harbor where I start my runs, it was almost 10 o'clock, not nearly enough time to complete a good 11 mile long run. So, instead I pushed my time to the limit and did a 6 mile run out to Ft. McHenry and back. I think it was a blessing in disguise because my legs felt sore and tired from the get-go. While I think it wouldn't have prevented me from hitting 11 miles, I think I would have been really sore had I gone the distance. So, I'm not too broken up about not being able to go 11 miles today; I'll get it in next weekend.

I watched two running movie last night: Prefontaine and The Running Man. Before I justify The Running Man as a running movie, let me say that overall I liked Prefontaine a lot. I thought Jared Leto did a great job playing Pre and the movie did a good job chronicling his life. Some of the dialogue and acting were not that good, and at times I got the feeling that this was a made-for-TV movie rather than a studio film, but those moments were few and far between.

The Running Man, a dystopic sci fi action movie starring everyone's favorite Austrian, Arnold Schwarzenegger (i.e. "The Governator"), is totally a running movie and not just because running is in the title. Oh no, there is tons of running in this movie, from the beginning to the very end. For those of you who haven't seen this totally kick-ass film, check it out HERE. Trust me, there's tons of running...mostly away from psychopathic guys with chainsaws, flamethrowers, electric bolts, and a hockey stick with a sword for a blade. But it's running nonetheless! If you haven't seen it, I would suggest a viewing when you want something that doesn't require too much thought and involves a beautiful woman doing situps in lingerie at one point (I think this was this actress' only film as i've nevr seen her before). AND, you can say it's all good because the movie is really about RUNNING.
