Sleeping In + Heat = Embarassment

That's the equation for this past weekend because on both Saturday and Sunday I got crushed by Mother Nature. In retrospect, it makes perfect sense to me, but it still sucks. If you run in 75 degrees with 50% humidity or greater, you will suffer. Saturday it was north of 75 and high 80's in humidity...nice. Sunday was mid 70's and 50% humidity.

Like I said, looking back, it follows that I should have a learning curve when it comes to running in the heat. I had to get used to running in the cold weather by waiting until later in the morning to run on the weekends and wearing the appropriate attire, etc. It's only logical that the same is true for running in the heat for the first time. While I got out the door at what I thought was an appropriately early 8:30 AM, this is in fact too late by about 90 minutes, if not more. Most sources on the web suggest running as early as possible, if not earlier. In fact, if you want to run on Saturday, go ahead and get out there on Friday just to be safe.

Seriously, the earlier you run, the better. Again, this makes perfect sense to me. I thought that's what I was doing and if it was February, 8:30 would be an ideal time to head out (sun's been out enough to warm things up a little, no traffic since it's early, etc). But in late May, not so much. This is undoubtedly why I had such a fantastic run during the workweek last week...it was about 57 degrees out! It was also 6:00 AM.

Both days I took plenty of water along and refilled at water fountains along the way, so my hydration is not a problem. The time of day is the culprit here. So, that means my weekends will not be for sleeping in, but instead will be peppered with afternoon naps, which I'm OK with, actually.

So, tomorrow I may get out to run. The reason I say may is that they're installing new windows in my apartment tomorrow and I need to have everything moved away from my windows before I leave for work. I could simply get up earlier and run then come back and shower and move my furniture so we'll see. I have a goal to run the rest of the week and then hit the gym on Saturday, but that may change depending on my schedule. Once these windows are installed, my life will be much less hectic as my apartment's feng shui will have returned.

Nonetheless, I need to get my ass to bed earlier at night so I can get up earlier the next day, bottom line.
