Swapping One for the Other

So turns out the prospect of getting up at 4AM for a race that's a 2 hour drive away is not enough inspiration for me. I skipped the Delaware 10-Miler...maybe I'll do it next year. I was feeling guilty about it until this morning when I got an e-mail announcing the new Baltimore 10 Miler is going to be held on June 21! Registration opens tomorrow morning at 10AM so I will have to get on that. However, they don't tell you how much the race costs, although I think it will be similarly priced to the Celtic Solstice, which has two prices, one for those runners who want the "premium" (a nice-looking winter running jacket) and one for those runners who just want the race. I chose the lower cost because it was about 75% lower than the premium price and I don't need another running jacket. It sounds like this race is going to follow similar lines. They're offering a pullover fleece for this race, although it's not worded as something every runner WILL receive but rather something that every CAN receive. I assume that means you can opt out of receiving a fleece and save a substantial sum of money on the entry fee. If so, I'll go the cheap route and live without another fleece in my closet. The Celtic Solstice was $10 for non-premium entry, which is right up my alley. Hopefully the 10-Miler will come in around $20 (it's associated the University of Maryland Heart Center and hospitals love charging higher prices for things, hence my inflated price).

At any rate, unless the entry fee is too high, I'll be running this race. I was worried that I didn't have a decent race to run in the end of June, so this works out really well on that front. It's also in Baltimore, which minimizes travel time and expense. I'll just have to drive up to Druid Hill Park, which is like 10 minutes away. No biggie. The race is limited to 2,000 runners, which means it won't be a mad house either.

So, I wimped out on one race, but was rewarded by getting to participate in an inaugural race here in Baltimore!

A fleece for a June race? That makes no sense whatsoever!

My premium for the Frederick Marathon was a microfiber pullover. I mistook the work "microfiber" for fleece (I think there are some clothing companies that market their fleece clothing as "microfiber fleece" thus my confusion). I was quite disappointed when my pullover was not fleece material but windbreaker material. However, I have been able to wear it over the past few weeks - so I'm now a happy camper.
